Hyperallergic reports on the Dumbo Arts Festival
October 4, 2012
Here is an excerpt from Hyperallergic’s recap of the Dumbo Arts Festival:
Strolling and glancing through the open studios at 45 Main Street, 20 Jay Street, and 68 Jay Street I was most struck by a painting by Laura Karetzky. It was still a work in progress and I had the opportunity to help her finalize the title for the painting — “After Reading.” Think still life, vanitas, and hipster dinner party all jumbled in symbolic gestures of death, gluttony, anxiety, and pleasure.

“Said What?” solo show at Lora Schlesinger Gallery
March 10, 2011
Santa Monica, CA
March 19-April 30, 2011
Lora Schlesinger Gallery is proud to present “Said What?”, a new series of paintings by Laura Karetzky. The show is her third exhibition at Lora Schlesinger Gallery.
Laura Karetzky’s new paintings are generously painted in a complex, yet subtle color palette. Each image functions as an excerpt of a visual diary that deconstructs and refutes the conventional linear narrative. Like Hitchcock film stills, the work is eerily psychological depicting the mysterious moments in between the main events. Together the paintings form a collection of fragments of one’s memory typically overlooked, exploring the nuances of voyeurism.
